YouTube announced a long list of new tools at Made on YouTube on September 23, 2026. Most of it won't change your week, but a few pieces matter if you're still under 1,000 subscribers. Here's what's worth your time, with where each one stands as of September 25.

Feedback before you publish (in Studio now)

Studio can now review a draft and give you notes on pacing, structure and storytelling before it goes live. It works on draft, private and unlisted videos, on desktop. If there's nobody else to watch your cut, this is a free second set of eyes.

Thumbnails that test themselves (rolling out)

YouTube says Studio can generate thumbnail options that match your channel's style. It's also adding dynamic thumbnails: give it three options, and YouTube will show each part of your audience the one that works best for them.

Find your outliers (rolling out)

New Insights and Research areas in Studio are meant to explain how your past videos performed and surface outlier videos to spark the next idea. When you get them, look first at the outliers your own viewers already watch before chasing anyone else's.

Shorts can be a series (rolling out)

You can now group Shorts into seasons and episodes, give each one a custom thumbnail, and let viewers watch them in order on web, mobile and TV. If you already make Shorts in parts, this gives them a proper home.

Test your hook (coming soon)

YouTube says you'll soon be able to test up to three cuts of the same video to see which opening holds people best. It isn't here yet. When it lands, try it on the videos that already get search traffic.

The YPP bar rises on February 1, 2027

This was announced in August, and it's the one to plan around. From February 1, 2027, new applicants to the YouTube Partner Program need 1,000 subscribers plus either 8,000 watch hours in the last 12 months or 20 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. Today it's 4,000 hours or 10 million Shorts views.

If you're already in YPP, you keep your spot, but you need to accept the updated terms in YouTube Studio by January 31, 2027 to keep earning from those features.

New tools are fun to try. What gets you to the bar is still making videos on a schedule you can keep.
