The mission

Monetizing isn't the win

Monetization is the goal, but it's a poor way to tell whether you're winning. Here's the measure we use in Video Creator Club instead.

Almost everyone in our club is working toward the YouTube Partner Program, and I'm glad they are. It's a real goal. But I don't use it to tell whether someone is winning, because it can take a long time to arrive and it tells you very little about what to do this week.

The mission is monetization, but winning for us is, can you start making videos that people want to see to a targeted audience, and can we do that at a regular cadence?

Get clear

Know who your videos are for and what those people type into search. Once you know that, every idea you have gets checked against them before you film it, and it gets much easier to say no to the ideas that don't fit.

Get on a cadence

Pick the number of videos a month you can keep making when life gets busy, and hold that number before you try to raise it. A pace you can keep will do more for your channel than a burst you can't.

Watch the right number

It's easy to get off track when we have numbers goals.

Views and subscribers move for all kinds of reasons you don't control. The number of videos you published this month is yours. Count that first.

Make videos on a schedule you can keep

Video Creator Club is where you build your channel with us. We teach you to run it. We don't run it for you.
